Obituary

Irene Layne Price, 93 of Radford, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007. She was born July 2, 1914, the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Eugenia Hedge Layne. She and her late husband owned and operated the Mick or Mack and Jefferson Street Market. After the death of her husband, Irene worked part-time at Teds Market. She was a member of Grove United Methodist Church; president of the Essie Barnett Sunday School Class; member of the United Methodist Women; and a former member of the Radford Womens Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years (1939 1971), John Luck Price; brother, Robert B. Layne and sister, Margaret Meredith. She will be missed by the wonderful friends who became her family. Irene was beloved Granny P to many children whose lives are richer because of her love. Renie gives thanks to everyone who has loved and taken care of us forever. A special thanks to Dr. Dan Kelly for the care, blessings and support he provided. Survivors include a daughter, Renie Price of Radford; nieces, Maxine Weaver, Dottie Layne, Connie Whalen and Mildred Wall; a nephew, John Robert Layne; and a godchild, Marian Osborne DeHart. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 22, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. James Bennington and Pastor Barry Van Steenberg officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in Radford. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home or anytime at the home. Flowers will be appreciated or contributions may be made to the Grove United Methodist Church, 1020 Tyler Avenue, Radford, VA 24141 or to the Radford Volunteer Fire Dept., Radford, VA 24141, where John Price was a long-standing member. The Price family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
