Hugh Evans Shanklin, 83, of Hiwassee, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013. He was a veteran of both the U. S. Army and the U. S. Air Force and retired from Hercules. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Ruby Shelburne Shanklin, sister, Elizabeth Hopkins, and brother, James V. Shanklin. He is survived by his loving and devoted sisters, Martha Philion of Queensbury, NY, and Ina (John) Shelton of Christiansburg; sons, Robert (Tammie) Shanklin, Ronald (Selena) Shanklin, Randall (Joy) Shanklin, and Roger Shanklin; grandchildren, Heth, Chase, Derrick and Angel; and several special nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Carl McNeil, Larry Bolt, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Simpkins, Bill Burton, Charlie Burton, Pam Dalton and family, and all his friends on Blue Springs Road for their friendship and many visits which helped make Hugh's life easier. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Neil Wood officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12 Noon. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite charity.
