Herman Cleo Thomas, 98, of Radford, died August 24, 2012 at his residence. He was born December 30, 1913 a son of the late Joel E. and Lonnie Rakes Thomas of Franklin County. He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Holmes Marshall who died in 1977. Herman was a retired businessman and keen investor. He was the owner of Thomas and Ingram Furniture Company in downtown Radford. After retiring from the furniture business he and his wife enjoyed spending half the year at their home in Naples, Fla. He mentored his investing skills to his family encouraging and gently suggesting they study business. To the end he read and kept his mind sharp as well as his body by going to Radford Rec Hall three times a week. He was a man of deep and abiding faith, realizing his Lord was in control. He is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Betty Kiser Mauck Thomas; sons Joseph C. and wife, Maureen and Calvin L. and wife Kelli; daughter Nancy Yost and husband Byron; stepsons Dr. Michael G. Mauck and wife Sherri and David W. Mauck and wife Connie; and stepdaughter Debbie L. Mauck and companion Walter Akers. He is also survived by two sisters: Algeria Ingram and Corinna Walker and husband, Rhett. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He will be missed.
