Obituary

Herman Floyd Howell, 94 of Dublin passed away, Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Highland Ridge Nursing & Rehab. He was born in Sparta, Tenn. on October 13, 1913 to the late John Douglas and Lillie Ann Tallant Howell. He was also preceded in death by five brothers Delbert, William (Bill), Haston, Richard and James, and three sisters, Etta Post, Ina Honeycutt and Rowena Hancock. He served in the US Army during WWII where his tour of duty was with the signal corps serving in the South Pacific. His working years were in the Textile Industry, with the last twenty five being at the New River Textiles in Radford, retiring in January 1976. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Eunice Hartsel Howell of Dublin; two sons, Taylor L., Harrisonburg and Garrett Deane, Greensboro, NC.; four grandsons and spouses, Benjamin and Stephanie Howell, Chesterfield, Isaac J. and Kim Howell of Norfolk, Jonathan D. and Nicholas D. Howell, Greensboro, NC.; one great grandson, Jackson Taylor Howell, Chesterfield; brother and sister-in-law, Edward Lee and Audrey Howell, Blue Ridge; special sister-in-laws, June, Lois and Carol Howell and Margaret Birch; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford, with the Rev. Terry Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, in Dublin. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, 6900 Pulaski Avenue, Radford, VA 24141. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The Howell family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
