Helen Rutrough Atkinson, 91, of Radford, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Radford Nursing and Rehab after a long battle of suffering and pain. She retired from the Radford Childcare Center after many years and was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Radford for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Albert and Bertha Whitenack Rutrough, two brothers, William Howard Rutrough and Oscar Mitchell Rutrough, grandson Nathan Ezra Atkinson, and two sisters Virginia Reece and June Mowles. She is survived by her husband of 57 happy years, Maurice (Moose) Atkinson; son, Gary Atkinson of Cambria; granddaughter, Mariah Atkinson of Blacksburg; two sisters, Aldine Reed of Bent Mountain and Marjorie Evans of Glen Allen; brother Lewis Ruthough of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Radford with Rev. Gina Rhea and Alice Gallimore officiating. Interment will follow in the Piedmont Cemetery in Alleghany Springs. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The family would like to give special thanks to the Radford Nursing and Rehab Center and to Carilion Hospice. The Atkinson family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
