Obituary

Hassel Daniel "Dan" Sumner, 84, of Fairlawn, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022. He was U. S. Marine Corp veteran and was retired Chief Warrant Officer with the U. S. Army. Dan was also a member of the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hassel Bland and Mary Whitt Sumner; wife, Sandra Ann Bailey Sumner; and sisters, Dorothy Allene Mabry and Betty Jennelle. Survivors include his daughters, Melissa Montague Sumner Swisher (Shawn) of Staunton, and Ann-Rochelle Sumner of Harrisonburg; son, Sean Derek Sumner (Lori) of Switzerland; grandchildren, Mallory Ann Swisher, Hayden Sumner, Zabe Sumner Hameed, and Evan Sumner; and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 30th, in the mausoleum at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin with Keith Covey officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Marine Corp League or the Pulaski County Humane Society.
