Obituary

Greta Ann Williams died on July 11, 2018 at the Kroontje Medical Care Center, Blacksburg, Va. After growing up in Nashville, Tenn., she earned BA and MLS degrees from Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, Tenn. She served as a U.S. Naval Officer 1957-1964 in Texas and England, followed by many years as Periodicals Librarian at Radford University. Greta enjoyed annual visits to Panama City Beach, Fla. or North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and spent many hours sewing, reading, gardening, baking cookies, and solving puzzles. While young she also sang in Southern Baptist church choirs. Her special passion was her dogs, whom she adored, cared for unconditionally, and walked with at least 5 miles a day. Her survivors include her sister S. Joy Svihra and brother-in-law, Dr. Pavel Svihra of Lafayette, Calif.; nieces, Julia Svihra of San Francisco, Calif. and Zuzana Ikels of Albany, Calif.; grandnieces, Scout and Neko Ikels of Albany, Calif. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Canine Companions for Independence cci.org or Alzheimers Association alz.org. Services will be private.
