Obituary

Gorman Carlyle (Robbie) Roberson died on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 after a brief illness. Robbie was preceded in death by his parents Cora Dotson and Kenas Gorman Roberson, his brother, Shelton, and his sister, Dorothy of Pound. Robbie was born on October 13, 1922 and was a graduate of Christopher Gist High School in Pound and Emory and Henry College in 1950. Robbie was a U. S. Navy Veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After serving in the navy and graduating from college, Robbie taught at Appalachia High School in Wise County. He then spent the remainder of his career as a science/math teacher and coach at Radford High School. Robbie loved fishing, playing golf, and dancing. He was an excellent cook. But most of all he loved the company of his family and many friends. Robbie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret Kelly Roberson; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bob Bonazzi of Princeton Junction, NJ; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Leslie Roberson of Blacksburg; and his son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Carol Roberson of Woodinville, Washington; his grandchildren, Michael, Steven, and Annie Bonazzi; James Narramore, Andrew and Davis Roberson; and Kyle, Kayla, and Conor Roberson; his sister, Irene Roberson and his brother, Thurl Roberson as well as several loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Radford High School Foundation, 50 Dalton Drive, Radford, VA 24141. The funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2007 at the Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. James Bennington officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 at Grove United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 16th. The Roberson family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
