A genuinely charming and charismatic southern lady passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014. Beloved by all who knew her, 95 year old Georgia Stephens Smythers, wife of the late Joseph Guynn Smythers, died in her Fairlawn, Va. home in the presence of her loving family. Known for her kindness, caring, patience and altruism, Georgia was not only a beloved mother to her children, Jack, Jane, and Mary Ann, but also to their respective spouses B.J. Fisher, Llewellyn Davis, and Dale White. Georgia had six loving grandchildren, whom she cherished: Derek White (wife Rachel), Whitney Bauman (husband Andy), Stephen "Bimi" White (special friend Lucy Cundiff), Carter White, Gracie White and Charles Davis. She also had three great grandchildren, Tatum, Madelyn, and Gabriel White. Last, but not least, Georgia was blessed with two long-standing and devoted friends, Ruth McCoy and Ruth James. Georgia was the last of the founding charter members of the Fairlawn United Methodist Church, 7584 Brandon Rd., Fairlawn, Virginia 24141. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the church. Special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for their outstanding care, personal attention and sensitivity during a most difficult time. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Bobby Lorton officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
