George Ellsworth Aker, 83, passed away at his home in Radford on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. He was a WWII veteran having served in the U. S. Navy. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech and retired in 1987 from the VA State Health Dept. after 33 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wives Grace Moody Aker and Hester Chambers Aker. Survivors include several sisters-in-law, nephews and neices including Patricia Hotchkiss of St. Louis, MO. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the West End Cemetery in Wytheville with Rev. Randy Morris officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Carilion Hospice, 707 Randolph St., Suite 251, Radford, VA 24141. The Aker family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
