Freddie Ray Bishop, Sr., 81, of Claytor Lake, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 4, 2011. He was a long-standing member of Calvary Baptist Church in Radford, and owner of Bishops Upholstery for more than 50 years. Not only did Freddie touch the lives of his family but also many beloved friends, he will truly be missed. Fondly and often remembered for his grippingly strong handshake, fast cars and legendary spine tingling boat rides in his latest boat appropriately named Norma Jean, as was every boat he ever owned. He was preceded in death by his mother, Addie Bishop, father, Clyde Bishop Sr., sisters, Blanche Bishop, Elsie Bishop Landreth and Elva Bishop Slusser, and brothers, Clyde Bishop, Jr. and Otha Bishop. Survivors include Norma Jean Sowers Bishop his loving wife of 62 years; four children and their spouses, Freddie Ray Bishop Jr. and wife Kathy of Claytor Lake, Brenda Sue Bishop of Radford, Sara Faith Bishop of Cliffwood Beach, NJ, and Timothy Alan Bishop and wife Rhonda of Fairlawn; grandchildren, Amy Marie Bishop Berry and husband Eric, Becky Lynn Bishop, Stephen Travis McDaniel, Chelsea Rae McDaniel, and Matthew Brandon Bishop; brother, Carl Bishop and wife Jerri, of Martinsville; and sister, Ida Ruth Carter and husband, Mason of Fort Collins, CO. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 624 Sixth St, Radford, VA 24141 with Rev. O. D. Morgan and Rev. Brian Cockram officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in Radford. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 7, 2011 from 5pm until 8pm at Mullins Funeral Home, 120 West Main St., Radford, VA 24141.
