Francis Michael Mike Joseph 63 of Dublin passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and was a retired employee of Kollmorgen in Radford. Michael had a great love for animals and especially dogs. He had several interests and hobbies including photography, drawing and painting, and riding his bicycle which he rode in Bike Virginia several times and on the New River Trail. He loved spending time with his family and the yearly trips to the beach and the Chesapeake Bay. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sandra Simpson Joseph of Dublin; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Eric McDonnel of Ruther Glen; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Erica Joseph of Wytheville; grandchildren, Joseph McDonnel and Sydney Joseph; brother and sister-in-law, John and Hannah Joseph of Salinas, CA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Ron Leach of Shereveport, LA, Barbara and Rod Schultz of El Cajon, CA, Mary and James Kenney of Williamsburg, Catherine and David Hendrick of Richmond, and Eileen and Randy Dickey of Roanoke; mother-in-law, Gertrude Simpson of Belspring; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jackie and Darrell Payne of Dublin; beloved golden retriever Chelsea; and numerous nephews and nieces. The family appreciates the care and kindness received from Dr. Goldschmidt, Dr. Ojomo and all the oncologist nurses throughout his illness. The family would like to thank the staff of Southern Care Hospice for the kindness and care given to Michael and his family. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 2 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Stuart Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the time of the service on Thursday.
