Evelyn E. Buckland, of Belspring, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Evelyn was born September 3, 1919 to Ferd and Mabel Elkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Helen Watson, and her husband of 43 years, Kelly L. Buckland. Evelyn graduated from Pulaski High School, Class of 1937, and attended Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia. Between 1941-45, Evelyn was employed at the U.S. Naval Supply Depot in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon her return home to Pulaski, Evelyn began a 37 year career with Appalachian Power Company. She was deeply committed to the work of her church, Belspring Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for 68 years. Evelyn was a charter member of the Pulaski County Republican Women's Committee which was formed in 1957. The nieces and nephews, who were blessed to have called her "Aunt Evelyn," are: Karen B. Brown, Pulaski, Mark S. Buckland, Dublin, Susan E. Buckland, Belspring, Robert H. Buckland and Dorothy B. Charukas, of Fredrick, MD, Don L. Dulaney, Covington, Douglas F. Watson, Blacksburg, James J. Watson, Clayton, CA, and Rachel W. Wallace, Christiansburg. All are welcome to join the family for the graveside service at 2 pm, Sunday, March 1, at Sunrise Burial Park, in Radford. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 pm at Belspring Presbyterian Church with a time of visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered for "Young Life", a Christian association that serves the youth at Pulaski County and Radford High Schools. The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care Evelyn received from the professionals at Commonwealth Assisted Living in Radford and the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center.
