Obituary

Eugene B. Nixon, of Radford, lovingly known to his family as Paw Paw, went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 18, 2009 at his home while surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Bethany, Va. on May 7, 1929 to the late Charles W. and Pearly Belle Bryant Nixon. He was also preceded in death by his brother James R. Nixon and great-grandson Damion Wilson. A former employee of Burlington Mills, Buck retired from the Hercules Powder Company after 28 years of service. He was a former member of both the Masons and Moose and served on both the Democratic Committee and Electoral Board for the City of Radford. His favorite past times were motor sports and fishing. Well loved by family and friends, Paw Paw was a wonderful example to all who knew him. Left to cherish his precious memory are his wife of 61 years, Alma Eileen Alexander Nixon; daughter and husband, Diane and Michael Atkinson of Pulaski County; son and wife, Tony and Wilma Nixon of Radford; grandchildren Seth Atkinson and wife Elycia of Va. Beach, Abbey Jones and husband Tim of Radford, Michael Wilson and Heather Coffey of Graysontown, Christie Hollingsworth and husband Michael of Hiwassee, and Kyle Nixon and Kathryn Mitchell of Pulaski; great-grandchildren Cora Holdren and Kalib Eugene Nixon; sisters Betty Chandler and husband Junior of Archdale, NC, and Dorothy Grimes and husband Donald of Woodlawn; sister-in-law Doris Nixon of Yanceyville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all the kind and helpful doctors and nurses in the Progressive Care Unit of Carilion NRV Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Olen Alexander officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. The Nixon family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
