Erika Mathilde Louise (Marks) Kastning of Radford, Virginia passed away on Friday, 16 December 2005 at her home. Mrs. Kastning was 93 years old. She was born in Germany on 30 September 1912, the daughter of Lebrecht H.W. Marks and Anna Marie Louise (nee Krueper) Marks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernst H. Kastning, Sr. in 2002 and her half-brother, Alexander Berthold Karl Levesque of the United States Army who was killed in action in Germany during World War II. She immigrated to the United States with her family while she was a teenager. She and her husband, also an immigrant from Germany, were married on 9 September 1933. They celebrated their 69th anniversary in 2002. Mrs. Kastning is survived by her two sons, Ernst H. Kastning, Jr. of Radford, Virginia, and William D. Kastning of Stockton, New Jersey and daughters- in-law, Karen M. Kastning of Radford, Virginia, and Carol Nelson of Creamridge, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Ernst H. (Kass) Kastning, III and his wife Yunha of Haymarket, Virginia, and William D. (B.J.) Kastning, Jr. and Catherine Erika Kastning of Califon, New Jersey; and one great-granddaughter, Aayla Erika Kastning of Haymarket, Virginia. Mrs. Kastning and her husband moved to Radford, Virginia in 1986 from Connecticut and previously New York. She enjoyed working with needlecrafts and dollhouse miniatures, hobbies that she pursued with diligence until her death. She was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and those who knew her will miss her.
