Eric Percy Bartle, 76, of Mechanicsville, passed away Monday, January 9th, 2006. He was a retired mechanical engineer for Molins Machine Company, with whom he began his apprenticeship in London, England in 1945 and retired from 60 years later in Richmond. He was a member of Fairmount Christian Church and a devoted member of the Lakeside Lions Club, serving as president, District Governor and State Leader Dog representative, through which he received many various awards for dedication of service. During his brief battle with Crohns Disease and Cancer, he maintained his sense of humor, making him a delight and inspiration to all his family, friends and the wonderful, dedicated staff at the Memorial Regional Medical Center. Eric was born June 3, 1929 in London England. He was the son of the late Percy James and Edith Hockley Bartle. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Pamela Chapman Bartle; two daughters, Julie Akers and her husband Tony of Radford, and Karen Walker and her husband Sterling of Beaverdam; and five wonderful grandchildren, Brittany, Kendall, Michael, Lauren and Brooke. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12th, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home with Rev. Harry Gill officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery where members of the U. S. Army will conduct military graveside rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leaderdogs for the Blind, for whom he served on the advisory board at PO Box 5000, Rochester, MI 48308-5000, or to the East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 454, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville.
