Eloise Graham Turner, 94, of Radford, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Richfield Recovery and Care Center in Salem. She was born in Radford on March 6, 1914, the daughter of the late Joseph Grant and Vivian Luvenia Hall Graham. Eloise was a member and past Regent of the General William Campbell Chapter of the DAR, a member of the Radford Womans Club for over 60 years and a member of the Historical Society. She was a charter member of the outdoor historical drama, The Long Way Home, held at Ingles Ferry. She performed 27 summers, playing various historical characters. She wrote poetry and short stories, winning ribbons through the years from Wytheville and New River Community Colleges in their Senior Division. She enjoyed being part of a writing group and a music group where members were able to share their special writing and musical talents. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Clyde Turner and a son, Samuel Grant Turner. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harold Gray and Betty Turner of Boones Mill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Ed Vance of Salem and Sandra E. and Dr. L. Richard Berg of Ferrum; nine grandchildren Samuel Nelson, Michael Ray and Barry Grant of Pilot and Indian Valley, Harold Gray Turner II and wife, Jill of Roanoke County, Teresa T. McBride and husband Keith of Boones Mill, Edward Vance and wife Valerie of Hyattsville, MD, William Vance and wife Angie of Radford, Debbie Vance of Nashville, NC, and Christopher Vance of Radford; and three great-grandchildren Joshua Travis Turner, and Taylor Ann and Sydney Ava McBride. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Kristie Banes officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in Radford. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
