Eldon "Doc" Bryson, 95, of Radford, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Pulaski Health and Rehab. He was retired from Harvey Chevrolet where he worked in the used car department. He was a WWII veteran where he was a U. S. Army Corporal in Company D of the 323rd Infantry 81st Division. He was a heavy machine gunner and was wounded on Peleliu Island on November 2, 1944. He received a Purple Heart and an Asiatic-Pacific campaign ribbon with 1 bronze service star.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Smith Bryson; his parents, Henry and Elva Bryson; and daughter, Teresa Frost.
Survivors include his daughter, Connie B. Smith of Dublin; son, Larry Bryson of Radford; granddaughters, Tami and Tina Smith; grandson, Brad Bryson; brothers, Henry Bryson, Jr. of Newport News, and Billy Bryson of Tenn.; sisters, Myra Smith of Maggie Valley, N.C., and Kay Jennings of Glenville, N. C.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank Pulaski Health and Rehab, Dr. Richard Williams, and all the nurses and staff for their care and compassion during the last week of his life.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dallas Vines officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin where members of VFW Post # 776 will conduct military graveside rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to VFW Post # 776, C/O Gary Harris, 913 Second St., Radford, VA 24141.
