Obituary

Edith Akers Sutphin, 87, of Radford, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012. She was a weaver at New River Industries for 40 years and was Past Matron of the VA May Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She was a master quilter who quilted with the ladies at Carter Street UMC every Tuesday morning. She was preceded in death by her husband Iford Fred Sutphin. Survivors include sisters Mary Alice Buckner of Radford and Reva Martin of Christiansburg; brother James K. Akers of Radford; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff of Wheatland Hills Memory Care Unit for the outstanding care given, especially Angie Wesley and Sandi Hill. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Betsy King officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Carter Street UMC, P. O. Box 3296, Radford, VA 24143. The Sutphin family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
