Douglas Eugene Ayers, Sr., 61, of Dublin, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2012. He was retired from the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Gethal Moles Ayers. Survivors include his wife Debra Underwood Ayers of Dublin; son and daughter-in-law Douglas Eugene, Jr. and Stephanie Ayers of Wytheville; daughter and son-in-law Heather Ayers and Todd Gravley of Kansas; stepson, Greg Underwood; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sonny and Ellamae Ayers of Draper and Pete and Barbara Ayers of Wytheville; sisters Glenna Gravely of Wythe County and JoAnna Boulet of Florida; and six grandchildren, Mikel and Emily Frye, Joselyn Underwood, Marisa Ayers, Ethan Ayers, and Chase Underwood. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm with his brother Pastor Sonny Ayers officiating. A full military graveside service will be held Friday, August 31, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
