Donna Short Nester, 66, of Christiansburg, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the New River Valley Medical Center. She was born in Williamson, W. Va., the daughter of the late Acree E. Short and Mary B. Short. Donna received both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Radford University. Mrs. Nester started teaching with the Radford City School System in 1970 and retired in 2011 with over 41 years of service. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Radford. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Marvin (Wayne) Nester; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Amy Nester and their son, Jack, of Salem; daughter and son-in-law, Lesley and Warren Morgan, Jr. and their children, Andrew, Elijah and Olivia of Bridgeport, W.Va.; mother, Mary B. Short of Newbern, N.C., formerly of Altavista; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy S. and Raymond "Buddy" Linkous, and Karen S. and Dr. David West, all of Altavista, and Mary Ruth S. and Ret Col. C. Parks Schafer of Newbern, N.C.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Velma Nester of Christiansburg, Allen and Jill Nester of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dennis and Sonja D'Souza of Roanoke, and Tim and Joyce Nester of Radford; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. with Pastor O. D. Morgan, Pastor Charles Bias and Pastor Brian Cockram officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Mission Fund.
