Obituary

Donna Faye Hall Arndt, 79, of Blacksburg, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem. She was born on March 7, 1937 in Radford, Va. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Glada Hall, and her loving husband, Richard Allen Arndt. She attended Radford University in the Nursing program. She worked as Secretary of the City Manager of Radford, at Radford University, for the Dept of Corrections, and retired from Virginia Tech in 1995 after 34 years with the State System. Her passions were painting, reading historical novels, playing the clarinet, bird watching and spending time with her family. She was a member of the VA Tech Faculty Womens Club, The Alleghany Chapter of the DAR, Blacksburg United Methodist Church Orchestra, and Blacksburg Regional Art Association. Survivors include sons, Edward K. Smith, Jr. of Blacksburg, and Alan Dale Smith and Lisa of Pilot; daughter, Terri Jean Anderson and husband Kevin of Disputanta; granddaughters, Shannon Nichole McQuade-Campbell and husband Chad of Richmond, and Tori Beth Anderson of Roanoke; stepson, William Arndt of Portland Ore.; stepdaughter, Linden OToole of Alaska; step-grandchildren and their spouses, Makena and Sara OToole, and Malani and Mike Towle, all from Alaska; special great-grandchildren, Finn OToole, Lianna May Towle, and Michael Joseph Towle; sister, Charlotte Hall Rhodes and husband Harold of Petersburg; brother, R. C. Hall and wife, Diane from Richmond; many nephews, nieces and cousins; and other family members including a very special Aunt, Marie Jackson of Radford. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 Noon on Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. at West View Cemetery in Radford with Pastor Joe Carson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the NRV Bird Club or Blacksburg United Methodist Church.
