Emma Dolores (Dodie) Beamer Showalter, 98, of Radford and Claytor Lake, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and taught school in Giles County at Narrows 9 years and 34 years at Kuhn Barnett in Radford, retiring after 41 years of loyal service. She was born November 24, 1915 on Thanksgiving Day in Narrows, the daughter of the late Robert Preston and Nellie Faye Albert Beamer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Thomas Ammen Showalter, Sr., brother, Preston Beamer, Sr., and sisters, Mabel B. Coyner, Margaret B. Kinzer and Gilda B. Williams. Survivors include a son, Thomas Ammen (T.A.) Showalter, Jr.; grandson, Dr. Thomas Ammen Showalter III and his wife Heather of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Mary Ellen Showalter and Benjamin Ammen Showalter; sister, Gaynell B. Wright; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Grace Episcopal Church in Radford. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 noon at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 210 4th Street, Radford, VA 24141. The Showalter family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
