Dolores (Orzada) Cale, 93, a long-time resident of Radford, passed away on August 27, 2012 in Manhattan, Kansas after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward E Cale of Radford, and by a brother, Thomas J. Orzada, Jr., and her parents, Thomas J. Orzada and Angela P. (Kazmierczak) Orzada, all of Chicago. Born in Chicago in 1919, she trained as a registered nurse at Passavant Hospitalin Chicago. She served as an officer in the Navy Nurse Corps during World War II where she met her husband, a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Medical Corp. She was a long-time member and Sunday school teacher at Radford Presbyterian Church and served as volunteer at Red Cross Blood drives, an organizer in the Radford Women's Club newspaper recycling project, and a supporter of the Radford Public Library. She is survived by her four children, Edward Cale III (Carolyn) of Seattle WA, Maryann McGuire (Peter) of Atlanta, GA, Sylvia Beeman (Richard) of Manhattan, KS, and Frederic Cale (Nancy) of Richmond, VA, by her brother, Anthony Orzada (Angelina) of Henderson, NV, and by ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Donations may be made in Dolores' name to the Presbyterian Church of Radford or the Radford Public Library. A graveside service will be at West View Cemetery in Radford at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 1, 2012. The Cale family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
