Desmond Saunders Jr., 72, of Radford, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015 surrounded by the love of family and friends. Desmond was born and raised in Radford and moved to Hopewell, Va. where he worked for Honeywell for 35 years. Upon his retirement, he moved back to Radford to the hometown he loved. He was a jack of all trades and never hesitated helping anyone in need. He adored his family and was happiest spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Desmond "Tuey" and Ida Lawson Saunders, and his son D. Lee Saunders. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Norma Jean Saunders, Radford; daughter, Dr. Tracy Saunders Zikes; son, Jamie Saunders; brother, Larry Saunders; sisters and brother-in-law, Martha Ann Thomas, and Pam and Jerry Jordan; mother-in-law, Lorine Rawlings; grandchildren, Rudy Zikes, Lauren and Jason Black, Ryan and Bre Zikes and Channing Saunders; great grandsons, Greysen Zikes and Christian Black; and his precious furry companion, Darla. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Pastor Buford Linkous officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in Radford. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
