Derwin Wade Gathers Sr., 60, of Mt. Airy, N.C., formerly of Radford, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018. He was born on March 22nd, 1957 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Robbie Lee (Collier) and Wade Gathers Jr. Derwin is survived by his wife Tonia Gathers of Mt. Airy NC; his children, Demetria L. Gathers of Radford, Va. and Derwin W. Gathers, Jr. of Dublin, Va.; his step-children, Marque Walson and Jasman Walson of Charlotte, N.C.; grandson, Nigel Walson of Charlotte, N.C.; his sister, Catherine Gathers-Robinson (James) of Atlanta, Ga.; his aunt, Marie Chavis of Richmond, Va.; his nieces, Leah J. Robinson (Pittsburgh) and Shaunika Garba (Rashed) of Capital Heights, Md.; his nephew, James E. Robinson IV of Atlanta, Ga.; great niece, Amaya M. Garba; his in-laws, Elder Leroy Parson (Bertha) of Roanoke, Va., Ronnie Hackett of Christiansburg, Va., and Deadra Hackett of Hickory, N.C.; and a host of cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Jubilee Christian Center, 7331 Lee Highway, Radford, VA. Interment will full military honors will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
