David Lamar Smith, 80, of Newport, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017. He was a member of the Blacksburg Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses and a retired U. S. Navy veteran serving with the Seabees. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Iola Smith, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Brenda Scott Smith of Newport; sons and daughters-in-law, David Lamar Smith, Jr. of Ariz., Luther Harvey and Rozland Smith of Maine, Daniel Isaac and Stephanie Smith of Christiansburg, Jedidiah Eli Smith of Craig Co., and Gabriel Joshua Smith of Craig Co.; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Irene and Eric Matthews of Christiansburg; 11 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
