Obituary

Danie Duncan Viers Mannon, 97, of Radford, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020. She was born in Indian Valley on October 26, 1922. She was an original member of the Radford Pentecostal Holiness Church and in her later years the Radford Wesleyan Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Radford Chapter of the D.A.R. When she first came to Radford, she worked at the Ribbon Mill then as a line-a-type operator for the Radford News Journal. After her first husband died, she went to work as a line-a-type operator at the Baptist Childrens Home in Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lynch and Maude Duncan; first husband, Roy Viers and second husband, Ernest Smith Mannon; brother, Asa Duncan; and sisters, Ethel D. Viers, Eula D. Farmer, and Inez D. Vaught. Survivors include her sons, Ted (Micki) Viers of Newbern; and Bobby Joe "BJ" Viers of Atlantic Beach, FL; granddaughter, Sharmin (Russell) Quesenberry of Radford; sister, Roxie D. Martin of Parkersburg, W.Va.; brother, Lawrence (Janice) Duncan of Collinsville; stepchildren, Paul (JoAnn) Mannon of Radford, Joe (Martha) Mannon of Radford; and Ruby Huffman of Boones Mill; 13 step grandchildren; 27 step great grandchildren; several step great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Ridge Health and Rehab for their care and compassion for the last 6 years. Also, a special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice. Continuing to be the generous person that Danie always exhibited, she donated her remains to the Virginia State Anatomical Program. Funeral services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Christ Wesleyan Church, 525 Harkrader St., Christiansburg, VA 24073 or your favorite charity.
