Clara Ada Sowers Saunders, 98, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 at her home in Radford. She was a retired nurse's aide and a longtime member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Jackson and Elizabeth Moles Sowers, her husband, Earl Morris Saunders, Jr., son, Earl M. Saunders, III, daughter, Doris Gillispie, and several siblings. Survivors include daughters, Patricia Bishop of Dublin and Carolyn Sue Sherwood of Pulaski; brother and sister-in-law, Irvin and Gay Sowers of Floyd; sister, Ruth McGrady of Christiansburg; 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford with Rev. Hosea Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Christiansburg. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.
