Obituary

Christopher William Pearson, 82, of Claytor Lake, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014. He was born in Lethbridge, Alberta,Canada the son of the late Joseph Albert and Henrietta Van Lohuizen Pearson. After attending the University of Alberta he went to Yukon Territory as a civil engineer eventually becoming involved in Territorial politics. He became the first elected Premiere (Governor) of Yukon Territory and came to the United States in 1985 as the Deputy Consul General at the Canadian Consulate in Dallas, Texas. He came to the New River Valley in 1990 after meeting and marrying his second wife Nelda Pearson. Survivors include his wife, Nelda K. Pearson of Claytor Lake; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Stacey Pearson of Whitehorse, Yukon, CAN; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Simon Farrer of Airdrie, Alberta, CAN, and Joyce and Brian Harmatiuk of Lethbridge, Alberta, CAN; sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and John Atkinson of Houston, British Columbia, CAN; step-children, Cybele Daley Pasco and spouse James Pasco of Edgewater, MD, and Henry Daley of Richmond, VA; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Pulaski Country Club, 4360 Country Club Drive, Pulaski, VA, with Rev. Bob Hendrickson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Beans & Rice, P. O. Box 397, Radford, VA 24141. The Pearson family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
