Charles Arthur (CA) Viers, Jr., 82, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011 surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Radford. He was born February 12, 1929 the son of the late Charles Arthur, Sr., and Sarah Lawson Viers. C.A. enjoyed a 22 year career with the US Army which took him and his family to many places in the US. After leaving the military he was a US Postal Service mail carrier with 17 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Eugene, Thomas and Robert, sisters, Dora, Georgia, Ida Belle and Virginia, and his first wife, Illa Mae Hodge Viers. Survivors include his wife, Loretta, sons, Robert Michael (Carol), and Charles Allen, daughter, Debra Ann (Robbie), sister, Velma Sue, stepdaughter, Sherry Hedge, grandson, Cory Matthews (Laura), great-grandchildren, Dylan and Emily, and many cousins and friends throughout America. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, 2011 at 11 am at the Max Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery in Pulaski County where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm Thursday evening at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the VFW Post #776, 1303 Wadsworth St., Radford, VA 24141. The Viers family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
