Charles Vinton Lyons, 79, of Dublin, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday morning, January 20, 2013 at Highland Ridge Rehab in Dublin. He was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, the son of the late Ray Lee and Dollie Edith Cox Lyons. Charlie was preceded in death on December 28, 2012 by the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Ruby Mae Combs Lyons. His family and friends can sadly say that Charlie died of a broken heart only 23 days after his soulmate, to be reunited with her in heaven. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Charlie was very proud to be a devout Christian and a charter member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford. He was a U. S. Army veteran. He worked many years at the Lynchburg Foundry and retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, David and Teresa Lyons of Christiansburg, and Charles V., Jr. and Mary Lyons of Hampton; daughter Donna Duncan of Pulaski; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Terri Stockie of Va. Beach. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford with Pastor Jerry Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the church. The children would like to thank the staff of Highland Ridge Rehab Center and "special son", Doug Franklin for the loving care and support of their father and mother. The Lyons family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
