Obituary

Carl Davious Mathes, 86, of Radford, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. He was a member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church, a United States veteran having served with the 70th Infantry Division in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired engineer with the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He was preceded in death by his parents, Worley S. and Meda J. Greenway Mathes and his wife, Mildred Blevins Mathes. Survivors include daughter, Carla Theresa Mathes, of Statesville, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Rene and Richard Hasey, of Lexington, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Brett Davious and Amy Mathes, of Richmond, Ky.; sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Jake Wilhoit, of Chuckey, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Sue Mathes, of Williamsburg, Ky.; and four grandchildren, Samantha and Thomas Hasey and Joshua and Ava Mathes. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012, at the Fairlawn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bobby Lorton officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Burial Park in Radford, where members of American Legion Post #58 will conduct Military Graveside Rites. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The Mathes family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford, Va.
