Calvin Leander Clark slipped away peacefully from his earthly home on December 28, 2025, at the age of 91. He was born on May 2, 1934, in Wyco, West Virginia, to Lee Calvin Clark and Arlene (Parker) Clark. After the loss of his mother at the age of two, Calvin was lovingly raised by his father, Lee Calvin Clark, alongside his sisters, Lacoma, Maewatha, and his uncle and aunt, William and Pauline Parker.

Calvin graduated from Conley High School in Caloric, West Virginia, and continued his studies at Bluefield State College. He completed his degree in 1958, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Physical Science, and pledged to Kappa Alpha PSI Fraternity. Upon graduation, Calvin joined the U.S. Army in 1958-1962, where he served with distinction as a Petroleum Chemist and earned a Good Conduct Metal, Sharpshooter, and Marksman Commendation.

In 1962, Calvin moved to Washington, D.C. and began working for the Library of

Congress as a Research Librarian. He furthered his education by earning a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of Maryland. Calvin became the Director of D.C.'s Shaw (Watha T. Daniels) Neighborhood Library, where he established numerous community programs, including college scholarships for local students. He was particularly proud to have brought Gordon Parks to the library for a special program. During his time at the library, he was encouraged by real estate broker, Mr. Curtis, to pursue real estate. Calvin's passion for real estate led him to request an early retirement from federal service to focus on this new path.

Calvin quickly excelled in his new career, becoming a top-producer and award-winning Realtor at Merrill Lynch, Shannon and Luchs, and Weichert Realtors. In 1988, he obtained his broker's license and the International Broker's designation and founded Clark International Realtors. In this role, he displayed leadership and vision, earning further recognition for his outstanding achievements in real estate.

While living in Washington, D.C., Calvin met and married his beloved wife, Virginia (Day) Clark. Together, they shared nearly six decades of marriage. Virginia was a constant presence and support in Calvin's life, remaining by his side through every stage, including during his illness. Calvin enjoyed good food and meals with his family. He will also be remembered for his kind spirit and the love he gave and received from all.

Calvin found joy in fishing, civic engagement, and participating in clubs and volunteer activities. He was a devoted fan of the Washington Commanders, following the team with unwavering enthusiasm and pride. Calvin was admired for his steady presence, thoughtful insights, and the powerful example he set through his actions.

The Clark family extends their greatest appreciation and deepest gratitude to Jeanette Forde for her unwavering care for Calvin for over thirteen years and to The Cameron Grove Condominium Community, Building XI.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Maewatha Harris, and his brother Douglas Clark.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Day) Clark; two sons, Adrian Dowell (Denise) and Carl Hill-Clark Hagwood (Lealice); one daughter, Calvetta Phair; and eight grandchildren: Adrian Dowell Jr. (Stephanie), Candice Morrison (Donta), Carl Hagwood Jr., James Hagwood (Lauren), Benjamin Hagwood (Meagan), Rueben Hagwood, and Calista Tucker (Demetrius). He leaves behind twelve great-grandchildren as well.

Calvin is also survived by Lauren Dowell, Paige Dowell, and Adrian Dowell III,

Aaron Brower, Ariana Brower, and Alijah Morrison, Carl Hagwood, Jr, James

Hagwood II, Alyssa Hagwood, Benjamin Hagwood II, Ava Hagwood, Dillion Tucker, and Alena Tucker; one sister, Lacoma Coleman; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A celebration of Calvin's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford, Va. Interment with full military honors will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. Immediately following the Service a "Repass" will be at the "First Missionary Baptist Church" at 7318 Manns Dr., New River, VA.
