Betty Hale Jenks, 71 of Dublin, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007. After retiring from nursing at Radford Carilion Hospital, she enjoyed her tenure as a school nurse at Dublin Elementary School. She was caring and compassionate and known for her inspiration and encouragement not only to her friends, neighbors and co-workers but especially to all the children whose lives were enriched by crossing her path in life. One of her greatest moments was when she was honored by Pulaski County School Nurses by the planting of a tree in her honor at Randolph Park in Pulaski County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert D. and Margaret Lucas Hale. Survivors include her husband, Charles M. Jenks of Dublin; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Steve Branscom of Little Creek; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles M., IV and Lisa Jenks of Brunswick, GA, David R. Jenks of Little Creek, and Wesley Nick and Dana Jenks of Ft. Pierce, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Dean Hurd of Pulaski; six grandchildren Shaun Allen Jenks, Craig and Clay Branscom, Ray and Monica Moss, and Ryan Jenks; and two great-grandchildren, Haley and Hunter Jenks. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Pendergrast, the physicians and staff of New River Internal Medicine, and Pulaski Hospital, especially B Wing and the Skilled Care Unit for their extraordinary care and support during her illness. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin with Rev. William Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, VA 24018 or to the charity of your choice.
