Bertha Adith Phillips age 94, died Sunday morning January 2, 2011 at her home. She was born in Pulaski County December 5, 1916 to the late H. J. Phillips and Ida Vivian Cox Phillips. She worked for Burlington Mills for over forty years. She was devoted to her family. At the age of 17 she helped her mother care for her five younger siblings. As soon as she turned 18 she got a job and helped support the family. She was known for her determination and perseverance. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She is preceded in death by three brothers Fred, Ulysses, and Max Phillips and sisters, Jesse P. Feather Taylor, Virgie Beatrice Phillips and Zola P. Lancaster. She is survived by her sister Bernice Phillips of Radford; nieces, Elizabeth (Beth) C. Lancaster of Snowville and Connie Phillips Bennett and husband Ron of Candler, N.C.; nephews, Jonathan Phillip Lancaster of Snowville, Sam Feather and wife Gale of Blue Ridge, and Dr. David Phillips and wife Carol of Independence Mo.; four special great-nieces, Cynthia Pierce of Dunwoody, Ga., Debbie Rush of Conyers, Ga., and Kathy Mudd and Jenny Murphy, both of Monticello, Ga.; and brother-in-law Lowell Lancaster of Dublin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday January 6, 2011 with Dr. Hal Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Phillips Family Cemetery in Pulaski County. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
