Barbara Jones Shufflebarger, 81, of Radford, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013. She was the daughter of the late William Edwin and Nell Nelson Jones. She graduated from Bristol Tennessee High School and Emory & Henry College and took courses at USC, Duke and Radford College. She was retired from Radford City Schools where she was librarian at both Radford High School and McHarg Elementary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Garnett Shufflebarger, her parents, and a sister, Betty Jones Neal. Barbara was an active member of Grove United Methodist Church where she participated in numerous activities including UMW and the Roberts Sunday School Class. She especially enjoyed being part of the church choir. She was a gifted piano player and enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. She was also active in PEO. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Ellen Whitmer Shufflebarger of Hoover, Alabama; daughter, Dr. Ann Shufflebarger of Virginia Beach; her beloved grandchildren, Erin and Meg Shufflebarger, both of Hoover, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews, including her namesake, Barbara Leigh Neal. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 1, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Lane officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:30 pm at the Holston Conference Cemetery in Emory. A reception will follow in the Emory & Henry Chapel. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Grove UMC or to Emory & Henry College.
