Obituary

Aurelia Shelton Gibson, 87, of Radford, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026. She married Robert Lee Gibson, Jr., in 1958 and together they spent over 68 years creating a legacy of love, family, and faith. Bob and Aurelia moved to Radford in 1964 and have been proud, dedicated members of First Baptist Church since then, when Linwood Horne was the minister. During her time as a member of the church, she served on several committees such as pastoral search, self-study, the WMU, among many others. Aurelia would grow and arrange flowers for each Sunday service as a member and chair of the church’s flower committee. She thoroughly enjoyed decorating the sanctuary, especially for Christmas and Easter.

Aurelia was a vital part of making her community a better place. She volunteered delivering meals on wheels, working at the hospital and the clothes closet, and loved being a part of the Radford Garden Club. Although Aurelia’s enjoyment came from volunteering, gardening and flowers, reading, and cross stitching, her family took priority over all of that. Her greatest accomplishment and deepest joy was her family. She treasured her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her great-grandsons were a particular source of pride and those who knew her knew that.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Carter and Eva Simpson Shelton; brothers, Frank Carter Shelton, Jr., R. William Shelton, and James Carrington Shelton; and her son-in-law, Robin Lee Hall.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Lee Gibson, Jr.; daughters, Robin Gibson Hall and Gretchen Gibson Kenley (Ricky); grandchildren, Whitney Hall Roseberry (Nathan), Hunter Kenley, and Levi Kenley; great-grandchildren, Jackson Ellis Roseberry and Emmett Allen Roseberry; brother, Bob Shelton; brother-in-law, Ronnie Gibson (Margaret); and many other family members and special friends.

The family would like to thank the church, as well as the greater community, for the amazing kindness and support shown during this time.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Radford. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. with Rev. Kent Taylor, Rev. Dr. Paul Lane, and Pastor Diana White officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to First Baptist Church, 215 Third Avenue, Radford, VA, 24141.

The Gibson family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford, VA www.mullinsfuneralhome.com.
