Archie “Buddy” Rollins, Jr., 90, of New River, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Buddy retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant after 35 years of dedicated service. A proud 1953 graduate of Christiansburg Institute, Buddy remained actively involved with his alma mater and served as an officer of the Christiansburg Institute Alumni Association. He was a member of St. John Masonic Lodge #281. In his spare time, Buddy enjoyed working on cars for friends and neighbors, watching NASCAR races, cheering for the Washington Commanders, and supporting the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Deeply connected to the agricultural heritage of the region, Buddy, alongside his father and his cousin, Leslie Dean, Sr., carried on a proud family tradition of butchering and hog-processing, providing an essential and widely respected service to farming families throughout the New River Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents Archie Rollins, Sr. and Esterleen Casey Rollins. He was also proceeded in death by his stepmother, Isabelle Day Rollins; his first wife, Bobby Rollins Flynn (Roy); his son, Larry Rollins; his sisters, Terence Simms and Irma Jean Martin; brothers in law, Calvin Clark and Samuel Martin; sister in law, Willie Waddy; and his nephew, Michael Lee. His dear friend and business partner, Merle Hite.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cara D. Rollins. Longtime companion and dear friend, Marie Walker. His children, Paula Moore (James), Gregory Rollins, Steven Rollins, Natalie Carter (Vincent), Dana Austin, and Tena R. Fisher. Daughter-in-law, Brenda Rollins. Sisters, Audrey Lee (Sherman), Virginia Clark, and Connie Kincannon (John). Grandchildren, Tasha Akers and family, Jay Watson and family, Jessica Atasoy (Yusif), Kayla Distefano (Rick), and Justin Carter. His great-granddaughters, Harper Distefano and Leyla Atasoy. His nieces, Marchelle Flynn (John), Lynn Johnson (Howard), Yvette Tribbey (Duke), and Andretta Griffin. Nephews, Ricardo Simms (Veronica) and Charles Day (Angie). Brothers in law, Newell Day and William Waddy. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family extends special recognition and heartfelt gratitude to Tim Simpkins (Rebecca), who cared for and watched over Archie for many years and was truly like a son to him.
The family also expresses sincere appreciation to Stacie Nelson, Leslie Dean, Robert Rollins, Trea Philpott (her dog Rex) Debby Lane, Don and Linda Hanshew, James Woodson, Chris Lewis, and Scott Turner for their kindness and support.
We are so thankful to many family, friends and loved ones who provided kindness, prayers, and support throughout Archie's life.
A memorial service and repast will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 555 Rock Road W, Radford, Virginia 24141.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 555 Rock Road W, Radford, VA.
