Obituary

Annie Mae Ransom Turner, 95, of Radford, Va., passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 in Goldsboro, N. C. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church where she was honored as being the Mother of the Church. She was born in Gary, West Virginia on December 15, 1921 to the late Clane Ransom and Mary Gunter Ransom and her adopted mother, Ada T. Hale. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Raymond Turner, Jr.; Daughter, Betty Ann Turner Harris; sons, Douglas Allen Turner, Sr. and Rev. Jack Leonard Turner; and two sisters; Josephine Bell and Inez Byrd and a grandson, Anthony Harris. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, George (Bettie) Turner of Fairlawn, and John (Ann) Turner of Christiansburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth (Donald) Coles, Sr. of Goldsboro, N.C. and Audrey (Anthony) Kelly of Asheville, N.C.; a daughter-in-law; Shirley Turner of Radford; 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 555 West Rock Road, Radford, Virginia. Funeral services will begin at 12 p.m. with Rev. C. Coles Casey officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Radford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Annie Mae Turner to the New River Agency on Aging, 141 East Main Street, Suite 500, Pulaski, VA 24301.
