Anna Beatrice Brown Farris, 91, of Radford, died Monday, December 15, 2008. She was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on August 3, 1917, the daughter of Mary Ellen Guill Brown and Mose Brown. Beatrice was a long-time resident of Columbus, Ohio, and a Charter Member of the National Association of Social Workers. She held a Bachelors degree in Social Administration from Ohio State University, and served as a Social Worker for the Franklin County (Ohio) Welfare Department, and the Ohio Department of Public Welfare and Child Welfare until her retirement in 1973. After her husband, Colonel (ret.) George Catron Farris, died in 1981, she moved to Radford, Virginia to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Farris Lawson and Noel Lawson. Mrs. Farris was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and a member of Chapter H, P.E.O. Sisterhood. Mrs. Farris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Lee Farris Lawson and Dr. Noel G. Lawson of Radford, VA. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Ronald H. and Marion Brown of Gulfport, FL; and her sister-in-law Nell Bowman Farris of Tulsa, OK; nieces Beth Brown Stranahan and Sharon Farris Jones; nephews Brian Brown, Robert Charles Brown, Jay Farris, and Ronald Brown, Jr.; extended family, Noelene Lawson Shoemaker and her husband James Shoemaker of Kernersville, NC and their daughters Madeline and Anna, Lynne Dene Lawson Griffey and her husband Thomas Griffey of Vero Beach, FL, and their children Melissa ONeill and Kevin Griffey of Colorado, and Crystal Brown Fariss. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church on Saturday, December 20, 2008 with Rev. David Rose officiating. Her ashes will be interred with those of her husband at Arlington National Cemetery to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Grace Episcopal Church. The Farris family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
