Alice "Tally" Linvile Thorp Horton, 86, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Born July 12, 1928 in Stovall, North Carolina to Benjamin Person Thorp and Ida Jackson Thorp, Alice attended Stovall High School and graduated from Radford College. One of her proudest accomplishments was touching the lives of hundreds of children while teaching the first grade for 21 years. In her later life, Alice most enjoyed spending time with her beloved husband of 65 years, the late Ray Wendell Horton, at their favorite campground, Grindstone, in Troutdale, Virginia. Alice will be remembered as a friend, teacher, and caring mother figure by her sister, Elizabeth Thorp Kernan, her two nieces, Alice Kline and Elizabeth Old, her great nieces and nephews, William, Taylor, Meriwether, Rachel, and Guerin, and her many friends. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 210 Fourth St., Radford with the Rev. David Rose officiating. The family will visit with friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Wendell and Tally's favorite charity The Boys Home, 414 Boy's Home Road, Covington, VA 24426.
